Child Care and Protection Worker

Statement of purpose
This service has been developed to ensure that Child Care and Protection needs of children are being provided for Maori within the Maniapoto Region.

Objectives
To provide a comprehensive social work, counselling and therapy service to families under stress, where child abuse is likely to, or has occurred. The first priority being ‘is the child safe now". To respect families and work with them, empowering them to make informed choices.

To work in a culturally sensitive and appropriate manner with families from a range of cultural backgrounds, acknowledging the Treaty of Waitangi and working within it’s framework.

To interact in a supportive and professional manner with members of all other agencies involved with the welfare of children.

To provide educative, administrative, public relations and management services as required for an efficient Child care and protection service.

To advocate for children from family level through to national level. This may be for an individual child as well as for children collectively.
